The Municipal Historical Archive holds a vertical file arranged by topics. The material included is related to Ponce and Puerto Rican history not available in current textbooks.
The Twentieth Century documentation generated by the Ponce City Council is in the preparation/cataloguing phase.
The Ponce Archive has an Intermediate Archive Unit that is responsible for receiving, cleaning, organizing and inventorying all documents generated by the Municipality. This unit archives documents that, by law, must be held for a period of time, such as personnel files and payrolls for employees held for 50 years following their retirement. It preserves all of the Municipal documentation generated during the 21st century from each of its departments, later transferring them to the Historic Archive.

Personnel
The Archive has a professional staff in each of its units. The Historical Archive has ten persons, including archivists, receptionists and maintenance. The Intermediate Archive has 14 persons, including archivists and office staff that clean, inventory and maintain documents.
