Principal Chiefs (Caciques):
There were chiefs who ruled an entire region, not just a single village. Here you see two chiefs with their feathered headdresses which, together with their staff and medal, were symbols of their authority. The medal was a disk or sheet of gold which hung from the neck. On the left, the Chief sits on a chief's stool (dujo) made of stone in the design of an animal. On the right the Chief sits on his stool with a human design.
