The Spanish, who first came to Puerto Rico (Boriken) in 1493 and colonized the Island in 1508, occupying it until it became part of the United States in 1898. The Taíno Indians, native of Boriken who were largely wiped out by the 17th Century. The Negro, brought from Africa as slaves to labor for the Spanish.
