The Teacher Education Program (TEP) of Inter American University of Puerto Rico (IAUPR) constitutes an answer to the needs and aspirations of a society in constant change and to the requirements of the Certification of Teachers Regulations of the Puerto Rico Department of Education. For this, it takes as it basis the Vision, the Mission and the Goals of IAUPR, the University’s conception of an educated person, the Professional Standards of Teachers adopted by the Puerto Rico Department of Education, and the “Standards of Accreditation” of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Ponce Campus TEP has a been accredited since October 2012.
The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) is a professional accreditor for our Teaching Education Program that assures quality in educator preparation. Accreditation makes sure that educator programs prepare new teachers to know their subjects, their students, and have the clinical training that allows them to enter the classroom ready to teach effectively (CAEP, 2020).
Accreditation provides a framework that has pushed educator preparation programs to continually self-assess and conduct evidence-based analysis of their programs and their efficacy. These evidence-based shifts, rooted in continuous improvement, are helping to ensure that preparation programs are more likely to produce successful educators (CAEP, 2020).
